Resumen

The relationship between the basic wage, inflation, and the cost of living is key to analyzing the social sustainability and economic well-being of households in Ecuador. The objective of this study was to analyze the gaps between the Unified Basic Wage (SBU), the Basic Family Basket (CBF), and the Monthly Family Income (IFM) during the 2007–2025 period from a socioeconomic perspective. A quantitative, non-experimental, longitudinal, and documentary methodology was used, drawing on data from INEC and international organizations. The results show that the SBU continues to provide insufficient coverage relative to the CBF, while the apparent adequacy of the IFM depends on assumptions regarding income earners. The study also reveals a deficit in real liquidity, which is offset by strategies of economic resilience and persistent family adaptation.
